OK, here we go. My very first post in my very first blog..โ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆ. What am I supposed to write about again??

My name is Marjut. As you might have read on the About page, me and my boyfriend Fernando have developed a habit of travelling on nearly every possible occasion.

Not too long ago I was struck by a moment of sudden realization – I want to start a travel blog! Fast-forward a couple of weeks and here I am, writing my first post in The Smooth Escape.

Reasons for starting the blog
So why did I choose to write about travelling? Because travelling is my passion! Just like it is for the gazillion other travel bloggers in the world. But it really is. And through this blog, I would like to share my stories, experiences and tips with you, my dear readers, as well as connect with other travel enthusiasts. Since I travel fairly often, I want to leave a trail of my memories that I could always go back to and read in order to remind myself (and you) of what an amazing world we live in ๐Ÿ™‚ .

Strangely enough, I absolutely despised all kinds of writing tasks during my high school and university years yet the idea of writing a travel blog gives me a thrill! Iโ€™m looking forward to using this blog to share my personal adventure stories and reflections along with practical information on different destinations, city guides, reviews, โ€œdos and donโ€™tsโ€ and packing lists, all based on first-hand experience and research.

Iโ€™m aware that some people find travel planning daunting and overwhelming. I, on the other hand, totally love it! I really enjoy creating travel itineraries, and I do plenty of research before each trip. Therefore, I believe Iโ€™ve gained enough experience to share some solid advice and insights via this blog. I guess one of the reasons I do so much planning is the big and ugly FOMO. The Fear Of Missing Out on e.g. scenic viewpoints, secluded beaches, hiking trails etc. which I might not have been aware of if I hadnโ€™t done my research!

Travel style
I would describe our style of travelling as quite active and fast-paced. We typically have an itinerary planned for each day and we rarely spend a full day lying on the beach or by the pool. We usually travel on the low/medium-budget side, so if you are into luxury travel then this blog might not be the right place for you.

The name of the blog
You may ask why Iโ€™ve decided to call this blog โ€œThe Smooth Escapeโ€. Well, itโ€™s because every once in a while I like to escape the trap of daily routine by travelling abroad, and I do what I can to make sure things go as smoothly as possible i.e. without any forgotten essential items, mixed up travel schedules or other negative surprises. And wellโ€ฆ because the other domain names I considered were already taken. ยฏ\_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ

Why now?
Soon we are embarking on a two-week holiday in Brazil which will give me plenty of topics to write about so there is no better time than now to kick off this blog. Besides, I realised that this trip will involve a whole lot of “firsts”:

-my first time visiting South America

-my first time meeting Fernandoโ€™s (my boyfriendโ€™s) family

-my first time travelling outside of Europe together with Fernando

-the first time having a proper camera with us -> an Olympus Pen that weโ€™re still learning to use

-the first time having a GoPro camera with us -> look forward to seeing some awesome travel videos in this blog! ๐Ÿ™‚ (Disclaimer: letโ€™s see how awesome theyโ€™ll actually turn out as Iโ€™ve never shot travel videos or done any video editing)

For obvious reasons, some of the topics you can expect to see in this blog in the near future are covering Sรฃo Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Chapada Diamantina.

Time will show which direction or niche this blog will take but I am excited to get started on this journey and Iโ€™m open for feedback and suggestions so please go wild in the comments section below or contact me directly.
